How City Ballet San Francisco (CBSF) comes across
City Ballet San Francisco comes across as an unapologetically pre-professional, Russian-method academy that defines itself by where its graduates land. Its self-description is "Premier Vaganova Training," and the entire site is organized around career outcomes — "Your Career Starts Here," alumni "placed over 50" into companies it names directly, including "American Ballet Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre, Semperoper Ballett, Boston Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet." The authority claim rests on its director, Galina Alexandrova, "a Bolshoi Ballet Academy graduate and former dancer with the Bolshoi Theatre and San Francisco Ballet," plus faculty drawn from the Mariinsky, ABT, and Nederlands Dans Theater. The framing is intensive (ages 6-18, "individualized instruction in an intensive yet supportive environment," productions that "rival professional companies"), with a distinct Boys'/Men's program. Even the student testimonials lean toward effort — "I'll have to work for it." The overall impression is of a serious, results-focused vocational ballet school for the genuinely committed, with recreational adult classes a clear afterthought.
